Innovative educational programs.
At Pennsy Supply we know that education and training is the key to ensuring the next generation of workers. Whether inside or outside of the classroom, Pennsy Supply provides innovative educational programs which increase the level of understanding of the aggregate industry.
Elementary School Children
One educational program Pennsy Supply has adopted is "RockMan". This customized program, focused on our elementary and middle school levels, reinforces PA state educational standards across multiple subjects. Each classroom visit is customized to both the grade level and the academic subject matter requested.
Teachers and students alike enjoy our presentations ranging from a safety dress rehearsal to prepare for a visit to one of our quarries, general classroom instruction, or a testing of our Pennsy Supply RockMan hypothesis, "Edible asphalt tests yummy". After students receive classroom instruction, they are ready for the next level of learning. Field trips are a great way to reinforce the learning process. From learning about Rock Cycle to participating in "Rock Relay", students in Pennsy Supply's service areas are leaps ahead in rock knowledge than any other students in PA.
Pennsy Supply is honored to host the annual Concrete Challenge. Students in surrounding high schools are given the materials needed to make concrete. The students are then challenged over several months to come up with a mix design under various categories of concrete. At end of the school year the school groups are brought together and the competition is on. Students give a presentation on how they made their mixes of concrete and following the presentation a Pennsy Supply employee breaks the samples to determine the strongest concrete in each category.
Pennsy Supply is also actively engaged in providing both secondary and college level educational opportunities. We support high school vocational technical programs in both the Harrisburg and Lancaster, PA area. Serving as a member of both the Diesel and Welding Advisory Boards at C.P.A.V.T.S. since 1996 and L.C.C.T.C in Lancaster since 2006, we donate expertise as well as materials to aid in student learning. Annually, Pennsy Supply contributes engines and engine parts as well as staff to assist with certification and testing of vocational technical students. We also contribute toward senior achievement graduation awards. Technical education is enriched through our co-op training program where, in agreement with the schools' curriculums, students experience hands-on training and work in our equipment shops their junior and senior year o f high school. Upon graduation from the program many students begin their career as a full time mechanic at Pennsy Supply.
College Intern Opportunities
Also supporting post graduate learning, Pennsy Supply is onboard with internship opportunities for Civil and Mechanical Engineering students from regional colleges and universities.
“On behalf of the Township, I would like to thank Pennsy Supply for allowing the Township to deposit snow on Pennsy Supply property from the recent winter storm 'Jonas'. We also appreciated the upkeep of moving snow so the township could continue its deposit. Your help was a tremendous relief in the snow removal process.”
